If you’re planning a Tongyeong day trip or looking for exciting things to do in Tongyeong, Skyline Luge is one attraction I think everyone would enjoy. The girls and I planned a simple trip that included the luge and marinated raw crab for lunch. It didn’t require much planning and turned out to be a really great day. I highly recommending putting this one down for your next free weekend.
Skyline Luge Tongyeong is located just across from the Tongyeong Cable Car, making it a great spot for a full day of fun activities and well worth the drive (or journey) to this charming coastal city.
If you decide to try the luge during the summer, I’d say booking your tickets in advance is essential because it can get hella busy. In fact, I’d encourage you to visit during the off-season instead. Waiting in line in the summer heat is never fun.
I’ve visited in summer, autumn—which is probably the best time—and the middle of winter. The main difference is that you’ll need to wear a pair of gloves in winter to help block the cold wind.
You can check the ticket prices and course options on their website. They also have the Eurobungy, which looks pretty cool if you’re up for something a little more thrilling.
After our morning of fun and excitement, we headed to a marinated raw crab restaurant for lunch. I’d tried raw crab once before many years ago in Yeosu, a city well known for this dish, so this time I wanted to introduce it to my friends.
We ordered soy sauce marinated crab, spicy marinated crab, and seaweed soup. The crab itself isn’t really the main part of the meal. Each serving is fairly small, so the soup and rice are what will really fill you up. That said, you can create plenty of different combinations using the crab meat, side dishes, rice, and soup.
You can squeeze the crab meat out of the shell (using a pair of gloves) onto your plate and enjoy it however you like, or you can dive right in and bite into the shell to get every last bit of meat. I found the crab on its own to have quite an intense seafood flavour for my liking, but when combined with the rice and side dishes, it was absolutely delicious. My friends, however, loved it just as it was.
It may seem like an unusual dish if you’re more familiar with Western cuisine, but I highly recommend giving it a try if you have the chance.
Overall, Skyline Luge Tongyeong is one of those attractions that’s just as fun the second or third time around as it is the first. Pairing it with a traditional marinated raw crab lunch made for a fantastic day out and gave my friends the chance to experience something uniquely Korean. Whether you’re visiting Tongyeong for the scenery, the food, or the adventure, I’d definitely recommend adding both to your itinerary.
