Before the clock runs out I have to share my pictures from Gamak Mountain at the gorgeous festival of purple and white flowers in Geochang. Korea has a lot of flower related festivals in spring and autumn and they just never get old! I still get that childlike excitement when I see fields of vibrant colours set against the most wonderful mountain-view backdrops. So before the 2026 festival ends I’m gonna try—with this very post—to convince you to make the journey up Gamak Mountain.
The festival includes a variety of Korean wildflowers with the main attractions being the aster chrysanthemums (purple) and gujeolcho (white and pale pink). There are a bunch of other flowers and even silver grass to see as well.
As with all Korean festivals you’ll find the green and blue tents where some festival related items are sold as well as a few food and drink trucks around the area. Various performances will also be taking place at the sheltered stage area, so you’ll likely have some background traditional music playing while you’re taking your pictures.
I’ve been to this festival twice before and both times the goal was really just to snap a few pictures, maybe grab a coffee and stroll around but that’s it. You could probably take a book and find a spot around the stage area to chill and read for a while. But, honestly, you won’t need more than an hour to fully appreciate the scenery. Basically I don’t think this is one of those festivals you’d spend an entire day at. You could even make your way to Hapcheon’s Pink Muhly Festival afterward.
I hope I’ve managed to convince you that the Gamak Mountain Flower Festival is worth the trip. You still have nine days from today (2nd October) to check it out before the festival ends and the flowers have withered away. Or maybe you’ve already got big plans for the next few days, this would be a good activity to keep in mind for next year. You could even combine it with my Hapcheon Pink Muhly Festival post—coming soon.
