Finding Joy in the Little Things: Classroom Decor, Mini Chocolate Cake & Kitchen Upgrades

I may not have done that much over the past month, but the little things make all the difference. Be it a touch of classroom decorating, a mini homemade chocolate cake, or a simple spice cabinet purchase to make cooking a tad more fun, it’s the small joys in everyday life that made all the difference this March.

Decorating My English Classroom (Making Teaching Easier)

In my 2026 Life Update post, I somehow forgot to mention that I now have my very own English classroom! I can’t even explain just how much easier this makes teaching.

It’s sort of like when you’d go over to a friends house for the first time—you are’t quite comfortable enough to just get yourself a drink from the kitchen and you have no idea which cabinet the snacks are in. Teaching in another teachers classroom is pretty much that: unfamiliar.

But now I get to put up whatever posters I want, make use of the storage space as I see fit and have my own classroom rules😌. I think my favourite thing so far is having Words Of The Week for the kiddos, because I refuse to go through another year of hearing “I’m happy!” every single day. There are other emotions!

Delicious & Easy Chocolate Cake For One, Please

Something I wanna incorporate more into my life is making things myself, which is why when a friend’s birthday came around I did a little YouTube research on homemade mini cakes.

At the time I didn’t have a tiny cake tin, so I went with cupcakes instead. Lemme just tell you—if you ever have a chocolate craving, make these cupcakes! They were the perfect balance of decadence and sweetness.

So much so that I ordered the cake tin the next day and made it all over again that same weekend☺️. The recipe is really simple, I’m certain anyone could try it. I guess you could even double it up for a more standard cake size if you wanted.

As for the frosting, I kind’a winged it. A baker on YouTube said using a 2:1 ratio of icing sugar to butter is always a winner—and she was not wrong! I also added about a teaspoon of cocoa powder for fun. I’ll do a detailed recipe post next time I bake it, but for now, just check out the video I followed.

Organising My Kitchen: A New Spice Cabinet

I’ve learnt that convenience and organisation are everything when it comes to cooking—especially for more adventurous cooking. I’d often find myself looking for one ingredient only to come across a bunch of other ingredients that I haven’t been using all because they were out of immediate sight or reach.

No more! I’ve taken the fun spices, pastes and oils from hiding and placed them centre stage, all thanks to my new spice cabinet. She’s sleek, pretty and just what I’ve been looking for—here’s to making some delicious dishes together🥂.

I’d say overall March was a great month. Little things brought a big punch and the season finally changed! So you know what that means—get ready for some spring time posts🌸.
