My Favourite Date Night Spots In Daegu: Yakiniku Beef And Live Jazz

I love a reason to get dressed up, enjoy amazing food, and sip on quality cocktails. If you do too then this is a must-read Daegu date night guide. I’ll be sharing one of the best beef restaurants I’ve visited in Korea, along with the perfect spot for live jazz and cocktails after dinner. Let’s get into it.

Kinshu

Yakiniku vs Korean BBQ

The first thing you need to know is that this is no ordinary Korean barbecue restaurant—Kinshu is something special. They serve Japanese-style yakiniku, which differs from Korean barbecue most noticeably in the quality and preparation of the meat, as well as the style of the side dishes. Yakiniku will use premium cuts of beef served in bite-sized pieces and enjoyed with a simple dipping sauce. You’ll notice right away the absence of the usual vast array of side dishes, but I promise you’ll lack for none.

What We Ordered

Each cut of meat is expertly grilled by the ever friendly staff. They place each piece in front of you as it’s ready and advise you on which piece to combine with which sauce. We  ordered a set of 6 different cuts and I should warn my readers who are a little less adventurous with food—this may not be the place for you.

Our meal started off with raw minced Hanwoo (premium Korean beef), lightly seared and drizzled in truffle oil—absolutely outta this world! The assortment of meats that followed contained tongue, marbled short rib, large intestine and a few others. If you haven’t tried these before I know they may seem strange but I promise you every single piece is pure heaven. Your accompaniments will be dishes like cheesy corn, grilled vegetables, mozzarella and pickles chillies. You can choose a soup to finish the savoury courses before ending  with a dessert of ice cream and wasabi—it’s good I swear.

Blue Chicago

Live Jazz and Cocktails

There are few better ways to end off an evening than by sipping on a perfectly made cocktail and listening to some smooth live jazz which is exactly what Blue Chicago has to offer. It’s a walkable distance from Kinshu making it a great post dinner spot. You can check their instagram out to see which band will be performing on which day and make your reservation accordingly. The performance is about 2 hours long with a short break in the middle. I cannot recommend their espresso martini enough. I’m not a big cocktail fan but these were dangerously delicious.

This ended up being one of my favourite date nights I’ve had in Daegu. It felt a little more special than the usual Korean BBQ dinner because every course was an experience, and ending the evening with live jazz made it feel like we’d stepped into another city altogether. If you’re celebrating something—or simply looking for a memorable evening—I couldn’t recommend this combination more.
