BranJack, a Hidden Jazz Bar in Changwon

BranJack, a Hidden Jazz Bar in Changwon

Whether you’re into whiskeys & jazz or just into chill vibes & good times, BranJack Rooftop Bar in Changwon (브랜잭 루프탑 창원시) is a must! Personally, I’ve always wanted to be a whiskey drinking kinda gal…but, alas, my palette just isn’t that sophisticated. Nevertheless, I still manage to have the best times at this little *speakeasy.

*I’ll save you the google search I definitely needed on that one…Speakeasy: a store or bar from back in the day that sold liquor illegally because of the strict laws at the time. Although now days it just means a secret bar; made evident by the hidden entrances, in this case, a bookshelf.

So let me walk you through it real quick..

After stepping out of the elevator everything seems kinda normal until you hit a dead end in the form of a pretty standard bookshelf. Now if you’re a first timer it’s not too much of a head scratcher on how to get in. You should hear the smooth jazz coming from somewhere and you’ll see the pretty obvious door handle.

Once you pull that shelf open and let the jazz pour out you’ll be greeted by some very dapper looking gentlemen (who do speak English btw).  With the red mahogany wood, emerald green accents and super warm lighting I’d say there’s a rather Kingsman-like vibe to this place.

Depending on how large your group is I’d highly recommend getting a seat at the bar. Not only is it a great spot to soak up all that live jazz but it gives you a chance to chat with the owners for a bit and hear their story.

Now, on to the really fun part…drinks!

Like I said, I’m not a whiskey girl BUT I am a gin girl.

So after a quick scan of the menu and a chat with the bartender I decided on a Hendricks Tonic…followed by a Gin Martini, both of which were absolutely delicious! And those martini olives YUM!

If you’re really lucky you may get some nachos or fruit on the house. Although if you are feeling a bit peckish you’ll find some snacks on the menu, but I’d recommend having a proper meal before hand (they will also allow you to have a pizza delivery made if you ask before hand)

As for the live music, be sure to check the time and day on their instagram page (@branjack) before hand. Bear in mind there is an entrance fee on days with live music but trust me, it’s so worth it. These musicians are incredibly talented and the owner himself sings some great classic covers as well (Fly Me To The Moon being my fave). And if you’re really lucky you may be treated to a Bachata Dance performance which is just mesmerising.
