A friend and I actually stumbled across this restaurant, Duckle (덕클 대구 삼덕점), in Daegu after my nail appointment. The seriously delectable smell from the outside had us derailing our plans and floating toward the entrance like one of those 90’s cartoon characters. All we could really make out was that this place specialised in Chinese cuisine.
Pro-Tip; the row of chairs outside are a sure sign in Korea that you’re about to experience something worth waiting in line for.

The decor (which is Hong Kong inspired) immediately catches your attention and makes the overall vibes very different from a typical Chinese food restaurant. We were lucky enough to not have to wait for a table just before the Saturday lunch rush. And bonus, there’s a parking lot right next to the restaurant! It can get filled up but people generally don’t hang around too long.
We weren’t all that sure on what to order so we opted for the recommended dishes; fried rice with crab meat soup and creamy jjamppong. Along with a known classic sweet and sour pork.
I’ve tried sweet and sour pork more times than I can count and every time it’s good…but this one, game changer! I wanna say it’s the cut of pork that they use that made it so juicy and flavourful but honestly I just don’t know.
As for the fried rice, err mah gahd! Mix it up with the crab meat soup and it is an all-round winner. So savoury and delicious.
And last but not least those creamy, spicy seafood noodles. I’m a sucker for the thick chewy noodles, so yum. And the cream gave it a richness I never thought I needed with jjamppong.
So you know that overused phrase ‘run don’t walk’? Do that.
